Last week I got a call from Ewen out at Ballater saying the snow conditions were epic.
So on Friday I packed the kit in the car and took the long drive south. I met up with Ewen after what felt like a days drive through snow drift after snow drift and was not dissapointed by the snow conditions.
We head on up the hill to an area of rolling plateau's where the snow pack was waist deep. The wind was NW 6 - 21 mph. We opted for 6m Access XC and XT. with that wind range I didn't think it would be great to put a first time snowkiter on a 10m frenzy fyx or manta m3.
Ewen had no problems getting going, a few pointers and he was soon carving all over the plateau with his telemark skis and go pro helmet cam.
With the powder being quite soft in the warm temperatures it was a bit more difficult to get going with the snowboard but I was soon catching Ewen and we both explored as much of the terrain as possible.
A great day out at a great spot for snowkiting. Ewen captured some of the fun with the helmet cam and you can see the expanse of the spot by following the link below.
